Sri Lanka manufactures garments with conscience and care, according to self enlightened regulation known as
the Garments without Guilt,
Sri Lankan apparel manufacturers were the first in the world to inculcate fair labour practices and safe working conditions throughout the manufacturing process. As a result, the “garments without guilt” certification was implemented, under the umbrella of the Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF). Sri Lankan apparel sold under the slogan of ‘garment without guilt’ promotes positive and ethical working conditions among the garment factory workers and educates the global fashion community of the positive steps taken to uplift environment and labour force conditions in Sri Lanka. The country’s ethical environment and labour practice has attracted brands such as Patagonia, Nike, Tommy Hilfiger that focuses on corporate responsibility as key value driver to improve customer confidence. With a happy work force of nearly half a million and improved industry ethics and conditions, Sri Lankan apparel industry has succeeded in reinventing itself as the friendly giant in garment manufacturing.
Under the umbrella of the Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) clothing and fabric manufacturers in the Sri Lanka apparel industry keen to demonstrate their commitment to ethical working conditions are able to apply for Garments without Guilt certification.
